When trouble shooting controls you will find that each manufacturer has their own way of identifying their models and what they do, and for whom they are made for. Unfortunately this means that when you call in to that particular manufacturer or any distributor for tech help or replacement of parts you will be required to give certain information before any one of those issues can be addressed. Gecko is one of those manufacturers that require specific information to move forward before any controls or parts can be ordered. Just having the board information doesn’t all ways cross to a replacement. Gecko does have part numbers on their control, but they do not always correspond to active part numbers. Gecko makes many controls that look similar but have different programmed features for the specific tub manufacturer as well as generic controls. In order to cross check and properly identify which control you would need the model and options for the majority of the controls on the market. If you have a standard Gecko unit the easiest place to find and read the model and options will be on the upper right corner of the wiring diagram located inside the cover of the control box. This will look like a bunch of letters and numbers and may seem overwhelming, but very crucial to the manufacturer and to a distributor. You can also find these numbers on the outside of the box but may be less accessible and harder to read.
The Model Number may start in a few different ways as shown below: S-Class:
SSPA-1 | SSPA-MP |
SC-MP | SC-CF |
For the S-class, it will be required to replace the complete control system although heaters, sensors and transformers are available. M-Class & TSPA:
MSPA-1-2 or -4 | MC-MP |
MSPA-MP | B-MC-MP |
TSPA-1 | TC-MP |
For The M-Class, boards and board kits are available well as systems. The TSPA s are becoming obsolete, but there are still a couple replacement boards available .
Aware XE & XM: For Aware controls , it will be required to replace the complete control system although heaters are the only items that can be purchased separately.
The next series of letters and numbers gives us clues to how the systems are made, what tub maker they were made for and what they operate along with how the components are wired.
Let’s look at some of the more common numbers and explain what they mean: Sample Unit: SSPA-MP-P122-P212-B1-O1-CP1-NE-LS-H5.5-AMP-HS2
SSPA-MP: We know this is an S-Class unit from previous info stated above
P122- Pump 1indicator, P=Pump and the first number (1) indicates which pump, the second number indicates the voltage (1 = 120v 2= 240v) and the third indicates whether it is a one speed or two speed (1= 1 speed, 2 = 2 speed)
P212- Pump 2 Indicator, first number (2) indicates which pump, the second number indicates the voltage (1 = 120v 2= 240v) and the third indicates whether it is a one speed or two speed (1= 1 speed, 2 = 2 speed) B – Blower indicator, B1 = 120v B2 = 240v and BV = variable speed blower O – Ozone Indicator, O1 = 120v and O2 = 240v CP – Circulation pump Indicator, CP1 = 120v and CP2 = 240v NE – No error codes displayed Indicator, this is where the 3 blinking dots come into play on the spaside control. LS – Lights Indicator, LS = (1) 12v light,L2S = (2) 12v lights HX.X - Heater indicator, X.X indicates the kilowatt rating of the heater (5.5, 4.0, 3.6 etc…). AMP – Component Cord Type Indicators, the 3 common you will find are: JJC = Colored J&J mini cords, JJM = J&J mini cords black or gray, AMP = the AMP pin cord ends HS2- Tub manufacturer indicator, this tells us who the control was made for, Such as HSx = Hydro Spas, DYx = Dynasty, BFx = Bull Frog etc... (x) indicates the version for that particular tub maker
The above sample indicators are typical to what you will see, but are not limited to a particular Gecko system, as these will vary from system to system depending on the requirements the tub manufacturer Having all of your info ready when calling into the manufacturer or distributor will get you and your customer taken care of quickly and efficiently, whether it is for technical assistance or to purchase parts.
